Last year, a group of Be Humanitarian volunteers were releasing baby sea turtles on the beach in Guatemala when a couple happened to walk by with their dogs.
Now, if you know my mom, you know she absolutely cannot resist stopping to love on dogs and meet new people.
So naturally, she started chatting with them while soaking up all the puppy cuddles.
We exchanged contact information and stayed connected over the following months. As we got to know them better, we discovered they actually knew the village where Be Humanitarian works.
And then something incredibly generous happened.
This kind couple invited us to use their beach home to support the work we are doing in Guatemala.
Not as an Airbnb.
Not as a rental.
But simply as a gift.
This is a home they have loved for over 20 years, and they opened it to us with so much kindness and trust.
Later this month, we are taking our sewing team to the beach and for many of these women, it will be the very first time they have ever seen the ocean in their own country.
They are absolutely ecstatic.
And honestly… I think I might be even more excited to witness it alongside them.
Sometimes the most meaningful parts of this work are the things you could never plan.
A random conversation on a beach.
A shared love of dogs.
A connection between strangers.
And suddenly, an opportunity is created that will become a lifelong memory for women who work so hard every single day to support their families.
It’s a reminder to me that kindness has a ripple effect.
One small interaction can lead to something beautiful.
