Here at Be Humanitarian, we don’t consider ourselves a travel agency. We are actually a 501-(c)(3) non-profit organization committed to helping the needy in Guatemala. While there are elements of travel to what we do, we offer something so much more than what a Guatemalan travel agency would. We are humanitarians at heart and we offer comprehensive service vacations in Guatemala for parents, their children, or anyone else interested in experiencing a side of Guatemala they wouldn’t get by going through a simple travel agency. Let’s dig a little deeper into why we are so much more than a simple Guatemalan travel agency.
We Focus on a Different Experience
Our singular focus is on helping the communities we work with in Guatemala. We work with orphanages to provide funding and materials so that children in need get the education and nutrition they need to thrive. Over the course of 11 days, we travel all over Guatemala and visit individuals and families in need of our help. Since we started our operation, we’ve brought thousands of pounds of food, clothing, and medicine to Guatemala. And while we do it we bring individuals who want to experience something outside of their comfort zone.
Many of those who choose to join us on one of our humanitarian tours do so because they have a preconceived notion of how life is based on their own life. In Western culture and society, we are conditioned to a certain way of life. In many ways, the vacations we take do not reflect the true nature of how other people in the world live. When you book a tour through a traditional travel agency, as opposed to a true service vacation, you get introduced to a side of a place you may not have otherwise expected.
For Be Humanitarian, we want to both give back to those we serve and also give something to you. In many cases, those who join us for one of our trips come away with a new sense of appreciation for life. Just have a look at any one of the testimonials posted on our YouTube page. Giving Back is in Our DNA
We help people. Thanks to the generous giving of our sponsors, both individual and corporate, we are able to provide over 2,700 meals a month to preschool-aged kids. When we embark on a tour, we bring tour group members to meet these children. They go with us to these schools. They help us put together backpacks and packages of food and other goods. Spending time at a school or home providing food for neighborhood kids provides you with a sense of accomplishment that’s hard to describe. Guatemalan travel agencies don’t offer these same kinds of services.
Sure, you can hop on a shuttle to Tikal or lounge in Antigua for a week, exploring Lake Atitlan or other ruins. Perhaps you want to visit Guatemala’s Pacific Coast? Sure, you could get a package like that booking through a traditional travel agency, but when you join us, you get that and so much more. Because tucked between moments of philanthropy, we take you to some of Guatemala’s most important and sacred sites. From Mayan ruins to treks up the side of an active volcano, those who join a Guatemalan humanitarian tour are treated to both service and vacation.
