Passionista Podcast Conversation With Nancy and Amy
In this Passionista Podcast Conversation, I had the absolute joy of sitting down with Nancy and Amy to talk about service vacations in Guatemala and the heart behind Be Humanitarian. From the beginning, these two women have been champion cheerleaders for our work, and I could not be more grateful for the opportunity to share this space with them.
Their energy, passion, and commitment to impact made this conversation both meaningful and inspiring.
How Service Vacations in Guatemala Began
Twelve years ago, I began leading humanitarian tours to Guatemala, a country that completely changed my life. What started as a simple desire to serve quickly grew into something much bigger.
At the heart of our work is one mission: to inspire volunteers to become global citizens. Through our service vacations, participants step into hands on humanitarian work while building real relationships with families in our community.

More Than a Mission Trip and More Than a Vacation
During the Passionista Podcast Conversation, we talked about how what we offer does not fit into a single category.
This is not a traditional mission trip. At the same time, it is not simply tourism. Instead, our service vacations intentionally blend meaningful humanitarian work with cultural immersion.
Volunteers help install garden towers, support nutrition and education programs, and work alongside local families. Then they kayak on Lake Atitlán, explore vibrant markets, and experience the breathtaking beauty of Guatemala.

What Makes a Passionista Podcast Conversation So Special
One of the things I loved most about this Passionista Podcast Conversation was the opportunity to explain that our work is not charity. It is connection. It is partnership. It is presence.
When people serve with their hands and open their eyes to both the beauty and challenges of a country, something shifts. They stop seeing themselves as tourists and begin seeing themselves as part of a global community.
That transformation is the true purpose of our service vacations in Guatemala.
