Be Humanitarian has created a service adventure you won’t forget. This one-of-a-kind “voluntour” will immerse you in the Guatemalan culture and open your eyes to how others live in the world.
As a volunteer in Guatemala you will build connections with your group and the Guatemalan people. We believe there is value in service on both ends. Not only as a volunteer will you grow but you will also help the communities in which we serve grow. By serving these communities, you are making a difference now and for generations to come.
Here are a few ideas of what we do…. plant garden towers, volunteer in the local community, deliver hundreds of pounds of books, backpacks and school supplies to our preschool and local school, offer love and hope to all those we come in contact with and have an absolute blast!

Trip Itinerary
We have a full schedule and are excited to get started!

Day 1
Friday
Day 1 – Friday: Arrival and Welcome Dinner Upon arriving at Guatemala City Airport (GUA), our private driver and bus will greet us. From there, we’ll journey to Antigua. After settling into our accommodations, we’ll explore the city, a local museum and gather for a delicious group dinner.
Day 2
Saturday
Day 2 – Saturday: Semana Santa in Antigua We will spend the entire day exploring the spectacular Semana Santa festivals in Antigua. After dinner we will load into the bus and head to San Andrés, near the enchanting Lake Atitlan where we will be for the rest of the week.
Day 3
Sunday
Day 3 – Sunday: Procession and Family Visits After breakfast, we will experience Semana Santa in San Andrés with a procession. We'll dedicate the day to volunteering in the community. This includes delivering donations and visiting families, strengthening relationships, and witnessing the impact of our efforts firsthand.
Day 4
Monday
Day 4 – Monday: Volunteering Another fulfilling morning of community volunteering awaits. After lunch, we’ll spend time at our English school, engaging with the children in meaningful activities.
Day 5
Tuesday
Day 5 – Tuesday: Market Day in San Andrés Our day begins with a trip to the bustling market, where we’ll purchase hundreds of pounds of groceries to support local families. After lunch, we’ll host a fun-filled community activity, such as playing at the swimming pool, playing soccer, flying kites, or other weather-friendly activities, fostering joy and connection.
Day 6
Wednesday
Day 6 – Wednesday: After breakfast, we’ll spend the day immersed in service, delivering donations, visiting families, and deepening our connections within the community. You'll witness firsthand the impact of our collective efforts, creating meaningful moments that last a lifetime.
Day 7
Thursday
Day 7 – Thursday: Our last Day in San Andrés Following breakfast, we’ll complete our final volunteer activities. We’ll begin heartfelt goodbyes to the community that has welcomed us so warmly. In the evening, we’ll travel to Guatemala City to be closer to the airport.
Day 8
Friday
Day 8 – Friday: Departure We’ll have the morning to walk around Guatemala City and enjoy our last breakfast together, we’ll pack our bags and head to the airport. If you are not traveling with Tobie, please ensure your flight departs after 1:00 PM.
Additional Notes: Meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) will be shared together, fostering connection and camaraderie. Accommodations will be in locally owned Airbnbs or hotels. The itinerary and volunteer projects are subject to change based on weather conditions and community needs, ensuring we adapt to serve effectively.

FAQS
Where do we stay?
We stay in AirB&B’s and local homes. We always have a home base where we eat and connect together.
Do we share rooms?
Yes. Most of the time we don’t have housing big enough to offer individual rooms, however we may be able to offer private rooms depending on the group.
What types of service projects do we do?
Depending on what time of year we are going, we may be assisting with gardening, painting, building a home, installing wood burning stoves, delivering water filters, etc.. We will always play with, read with and laugh with our community and there are projects for people of all skill levels.
Can we bring items to donate to the community?
Absolutely! We will provide a list of items that are needed and if you would like to pack extra suitcases and bring them with you, we encourage it. We may also have pre-packed suitcases we can get you if you are flying out of Utah.
What is the weather like?
Guatemala is called the land of eternal spring, so it is spring like weather most of the year. We encourage you to bring layers as it gets a bit chilly in the early mornings and evenings.
What is the food like?
Be prepared to eat delicious locally grown fresh food. We hire local women to prepare our meals and we will eat at local restaurants. There are plenty of meat and non-meat options and we can handle many food restrictions. Just let our team know.
Is the water safe to drink?
No. We only drink bottled and filtered water while in Guatemala.
