We are excited to announce a service adventure you won’t forget. This one-of-a-kind “voluntour” will immerse you in the Guatemalan Maya culture and open your eyes to how others live in the world.

As a volunteer in Guatemala you will build connections with your group and the Guatemalan people. We believe there is value in service on both ends. Not only as a volunteer will you grow but you will also help the communities in which we serve grow. By serving these communities, you are making a difference now and for generations to come. Here are a few ideas of what we do…. we prepare breakfast and lunch, plant gardens, volunteer in the local community, deliver hundreds of pounds of books, backpacks and school supplies to our preschool and local school, offer love and hope to all those we come in contact with and have an absolute blast! Description

Itinerary:

Day 1: Upon arriving in Guatemala City (GUA) – we will be welcomed by our private driver and load into our private bus. We will drive from Guatemala City to the black sand beach where we will have our first group dinner and hopefully witness a spectacular Guatemalan sunset.

Day 2:  After a good night’s rest and a delicious breakfast we will head out to the beach to release baby turtles that have hatched overnight, enjoy the beautiful black sand beach and swim in the pools and head out on the pacific ocean in a fun boat ride. We will deliver donations to the local school and have time to relax and eat delicious meals together.

Day 3: After a good night’s rest and a lovely breakfast we will have another chance to release baby turtles before we load our belongings in our bus and say goodbye to the beach as we travel to volcán Pacaya where we will hike an active volcano and enjoy a delicous meal before continuing on to San Andrés. We will have a delicious dinner upon our arrival.

Day 4: After a lovely breakfast we will explore market day and purchase items for the families in our program. After lunch we will host a field day with our sponsored kiddos and deliver their weekly groceries to each family. We will spend the day volunteering with current projects and have dinner together to share our thoughts about the day.

Day 5: After a great breakfast we will head out into the villages to install garden towers. We will spend the day working with our local team to continue creating self sustainability for local families. We will witness the sunset from Lake Atitlan where we will enjoy a delicious dinner together in Panajachel.

Day 6: After a lovely breakfast we will spend the day volunteering and delivering donations. To commemorate our last night in San Andrés, we will host a Field Day for our community where we all get to be together to deliver additional donations and say our goodbyes. We will have dinner together and enjoy conversing about the day.

Day 7: After breakfast we will drive to Antigua to spend the day exploring the ruins and fabulous markets. We will appreciate the spectacular views of Vulcan de Fuego, Vulcan de Agua and Vulcan de Acatenango. We will have time to pack our belongings and enjoy our last group dinner together.

Day 8: We will load up and leave for Guatemala City after breakfast.

Please plan your flights home to leave after 1:00 pm.

FAQS

Where do we stay?

We often stay in AirB&B’s for group trips so we can have a home base where we meet for breakfast each morning and dinner each evening. There will be room sharing opportunities for those who are interested in spending less on lodging, but we can provide private rooms for everyone upon request.

Do we share rooms?

Usually. If you would like to purchase a single room we can accommodate for an additional fee. We typically share a large house so that we can share our meals but also have many options that would allow everyone on your team to have their own private room.

What types of service projects do we do?

Depending on what time of year we are going we may be assisting with gardening, painting or even building within the community. We will always play with, read with and laugh with our community and there are projects for people of all skill levels.

Can we bring items to donate to the community?

Absolutely! We will provide a list of items that are needed and if you would like to pack extra suitcases and bring them with you, we encourage it. We may also have pre-packed suitcases we can get you if you are flying out of Utah.

What is the weather like?

It is spring like weather where we visit. We encourage you to bring layers as it gets a bit chilly in the early mornings and evenings.

What is the food like?

Be prepared to eat delicious locally grown fresh food. We hire local women to prepare our meals and we will eat at local restaurants. There are plenty of meat and non-meat options and we can handle many food restrictions. Just let our team know.

Is the water safe to drink?

No. We only drink bottled and filtered water while in Guatemala.
