Day 2

Sunday

After our first breakfast together we will have the opportunity to attend the local LDS church service. We will hike to an overlook of Lake Atitlan and enjoy a community day with our families. We will play soccer on the field and deliver donations until dinner time.

Day 3

Monday

After a hearty breakfast, we’ll walk the quaint streets of San Andrés as we begin our community projects. Our work will include building garden towers alongside local families, learning how these sustainable systems will help them grow fresh, nutritious food year-round. We’ll also spend time connecting with the community and immersing ourselves in its rich culture.

Day 4

Tuesday

After our group breakfast, we’ll visit the bustling local market to purchase groceries for families in need. The rest of the day will be dedicated to continuing our garden tower installations and related projects, ensuring families have the tools and knowledge to maintain them. We will drive to Lake Atitlan for a walk through the streets of Panajachel, souvenir shopping and a lovely sunset.

Day 5

Wednesday

Another fulfilling day awaits as we combine family visits with more garden tower installations. After lunch, we’ll volunteer at the local English school where our sponsored kiddos attend. We will work alongside the children to improve their English skills. We’ll have time to volunteer in the classrooms, interact with the kiddos, play games on the playground and remember what it was like to be a kid.

Day 6

Thursday

Our final day of service will focus on completing garden tower installations, delivering remaining donations, and supporting local families as they begin using their new sustainable food systems. After lunch, we’ll spend time volunteering at the English school one last time before sharing heartfelt goodbyes with the community.

Day 7

Friday

After breakfast, we’ll head to the colonial city of Antigua to explore its cobblestone streets, historic ruins, and colorful markets. The afternoon is free for shopping or sightseeing before coming together for our farewell dinner.

FAQS

Where do we stay?

We stay in AirB&B’s and local homes. We always have a home base where we eat and connect together.

Do we share rooms?

Yes. Most of the time we don’t have housing big enough to offer individual rooms, however we may be able to offer private rooms depending on the group.

What types of service projects do we do?

Depending on what time of year we are going, we may be assisting with gardening, painting, building a home, installing wood burning stoves, delivering water filters, etc.. We will always play with, read with and laugh with our community and there are projects for people of all skill levels.

Can we bring items to donate to the community?

Absolutely! We will provide a list of items that are needed and if you would like to pack extra suitcases and bring them with you, we encourage it. We may also have pre-packed suitcases we can get you if you are flying out of Utah.

What is the weather like?

Guatemala is called the land of eternal spring, so it is spring like weather most of the year. We encourage you to bring layers as it gets a bit chilly in the early mornings and evenings.

What is the food like?

Be prepared to eat delicious locally grown fresh food. We hire local women to prepare our meals and we will eat at local restaurants. There are plenty of meat and non-meat options and we can handle many food restrictions. Just let our team know.

Is the water safe to drink?

No. We only drink bottled and filtered water while in Guatemala.
