I want to share a story with you about a special little boy named Josue. Josue is the only child of two parents who are unable to speak or hear, and until he joined our program, no one knew if he could speak or hear either. Having never needed to communicate verbally at home, he was incredibly shy and uncertain.
When we approached the school to enroll him, there was hesitation. How could the teacher work with him and manage the rest of the class? After much consideration, the teacher agreed, and in October, Josue began school for the first time.
Since then, the transformation has been remarkable. The shy, unsure boy is blossoming into a confident child with a beautiful smile. His joy and progress remind us why we do this work.
A dear friend of mine heard Josue’s story and asked, “Does he have a sponsor yet?” When I told him we were still searching, he replied, “How can you say no to that face?”—and became Josue’s sponsor while also sponsoring two other kiddos with Be Humanitarian.
