Volunteering abroad is an incredible experience, but preparing for a trip can raise a lot of questions. From where you’ll stay to what types of projects you’ll work on, we’ve gathered the answers to some of the most common questions we get. Whether this is your first time traveling with us or you’re a seasoned volunteer, here’s a closer look at what you can expect on your journey.

Where do we stay?

We stay in AirB&B’s and local homes. We always have a home base where we eat and connect together.

Do we share rooms?

Yes. Most of the time we don’t have housing big enough to offer individual rooms, however we may be able to offer private rooms depending on the group.

What types of service projects do we do?

Depending on what time of year we are going, we may be assisting with gardening, painting, building a home, installing wood burning stoves, delivering water filters, etc.. We will always play with, read with and laugh with our community and there are projects for people of all skill levels.

Can we bring items to donate to the community?

Absolutely! We will provide a list of items that are needed and if you would like to pack extra suitcases and bring them with you, we encourage it. We may also have pre-packed suitcases we can get you if you are flying out of Utah.

What is the weather like?

Guatemala is called the land of eternal spring, so it is spring like weather most of the year. We encourage you to bring layers as it gets a bit chilly in the early mornings and evenings.

What is the food like?

Be prepared to eat delicious locally grown fresh food. We hire local women to prepare our meals and we will eat at local restaurants. There are plenty of meat and non-meat options and we can handle many food restrictions. Just let our team know.

Is the water safe to drink?

No. We only drink bottled and filtered water while in Guatemala.
