In Guatemala, food insecurity is a daily struggle. Nearly half of children under five suffer from chronic malnutrition, and many families face uncertainty about their next meal. Be Humanitarian is working to change that.

Instead of temporary aid, we provide lasting solutions. Our Garden Tower program empowers women to cultivate their own food, nourish their families, and even generate income. Each tower supports year-round harvests, transforming lives with a simple but powerful approach.

Our Garden Towers

Garden towers do more than grow food—they foster self-sufficiency. Women who cultivate their own vegetables gain a sense of pride and control over their future. Selling surplus produce offers financial relief, reducing stress and improving mental well-being. With economic stability comes the confidence to build a better life.

This initiative bridges communities as well. In Utah, dedicated volunteers—primarily women—are invited to sew the fabric components that make these towers possible. Their efforts create a tangible connection, linking people across borders through service and shared purpose.

The Numbers and the Future

Since 2019, Be Humanitarian in partnership with The USANA Foundation has installed 1,857 garden towers, providing over 2.3 million meals. In 2024 840 towers were installed, resulting in 1.5 million meals for families in need. Now, we’re setting our sights even higher—over the next 12 months, we aim to install 4,212 more towers, generating 4.6 million meals annually and 23.1 million meals over five years. That means we need to raise $5k for needed materials.

This program is more than food security—it’s a pathway to lasting change. Be Humanitarian helps train women in gardening, financial literacy, and business skills, equipping them with the tools to sustain their progress.
