Be Humanitarian has created a service adventure you won’t forget. This one-of-a-kind “voluntour” will immerse you in the Guatemalan Maya culture and open your eyes to how others live in the world.

As a volunteer in Guatemala you will build connections with your group and the Guatemalan people. We believe there is value in service on both ends. Not only as a volunteer will you grow but you will also help the communities in which we serve grow. By serving these communities, you are making a difference now and for generations to come.

Here are a few ideas of what we do…. plant garden towers, volunteer in the local community, deliver hundreds of pounds of books, backpacks and school supplies to our preschool and local school, offer love and hope to all those we come in contact with and have an absolute blast!

If payment a deposit today, additional manual payments can be made in your account.
Full payment must be received prior to March 2nd.

Itinerary:

Day 1 – (Saturday): Upon arriving in Guatemala City (GUA) – we will be picked up by our private driver and our private bus. We will drive from Guatemala City to the city of Panajachel on Lake Atitlan. We will have a delicious dinner ready for us when we arrive.

Day 2 – (Sunday): After breakfast we will head to a nature reserve to visit butterflies and zipline through the jungle. If we’re lucky we may be able to spot a monkey in the trees. We will spend the rest of the day visiting our families homes, checking in on garden towers and delivering donations. We will eat dinner together when we return to Panajachel.

Day 3 – (Monday): After breakfast we will get to meet our mom’s and preschool kiddos for the first time and enjoy a painting project with them. We will also get the opportunity to read with and play with our kiddos. For lunch we get to support our moms at our Mother’s Market (where we can purchase handmade items and food that they make). After lunch we will visit a local school and distribute our donations of books, classroom supplies, and backpacks. We will then watch the sunset at the lake and enjoy a delicious Italian dinner in Panajachel.

Day 4 – (Tuesday): After breakfast we will return to volunteer at the school for a full day of painting classrooms, building bookcases and helping with the children. We will eat lunch in town and will eat dinner when we return to Panajachel.

Day 5 – (Wednesday): After breakfast we will have a field trip with the kiddos at a local park and a great game of fútbol (soccer). After lunch we will build garden towers in our families homes, deliver water filters and make home visits. To commemorate our last night in San Andrés, we will host a Movie Night & Pizza Night in San Andrés for our Preschool community where we pop popcorn and watch a fun movie together.

Day 6 – (Thursday): After breakfast we will load our bus and leave Panajachel to drive to Tecpan where we will experience a walking tour of the Mayan ruins Iximche. After lunch we will travel to Antigua to enjoy a leisurely night time walking tour of the city and eat a delicious dinner.

Day 7 – (Friday):  After breakfast we will enjoy a morning walk / hike to the city overlook to appreciate the spectacular views of Vulcan de Fuego, Vulcan de Agua and Vulcan de Acatenango. We will explore the ruins, learn the history of Antigua, shop in the fabulous markets and enjoy our last group dinner together.

Day 8 – (Saturday): After breakfast we will pack our bags and leave for the airport.
